'Quilter's Sunday' at Lyons church

Sunday, November 4 will be 'Quilter's Sunday' at Lyons Presbyterian Church. The afternoon begins at 1 p.m. with free, hands-on activities for people of all ages that will revolve around the art of quilting. Participants will have the opportunity to create prayer pillows and other quilted treasures at different activity centers. One of the activity centers will create a welcome banner for Lyons.

The quilting activities are coordinated by Leslie Leo of Lyons. At 3 p.m., Dan Duggan and Peggy Lynn will share music from their newest CD called, A Stitch in Time - music that celebrates the art of quilting.

The free concert will take place in the sanctuary and will last about an hour. After the concert, everyone is invited upstairs for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

People will also have the opportunity to see the Rural Ministries Traveling Quilt, that will be on display. The quilt was created by small churches and is being shown around the country. This will be the only viewing of the quilt in our area. The afternoon of quilting dovetails on the annual Quilt Weekend hosted by the First Lutheran Church of Lyons. The 'quilting' day is made possible through a Wal*Mart grant that promotes cultural events which bring members of the community together.
