Twig health fair in Sodus

Myers Twig Association is hosting a Health Fair on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 until 1 at ViaHealth Myers Hospital, 6600 Middle Road, Sodus.

The health fair will have representatives from more than 20 different health care agencies providing health screenings, demonstrations, information and much more. Special activities include child fingerprinting, visual acuity and glaucoma screenings, and child safety seat checks.

The Twigs will also sponsor a baked food sale, a cookie walk and a luncheon menu. There will be door prizes for children and adults, and a free 30-minute presentation at 11 a.m., Normal Responses to Abnormal Events by American Red Cross Disaster Volunteers, Sue Hartman, R.N. and Isabel Bolinger, C.S.W. ViaHealth of Wayne will be providing a community health screening from 7:30-10:30 a.m. For a fee of $20, you can have a preliminary review of their health status through a battery of lab tests of liver, kidney, metabolic, lipid and hematological functions. Men can opt to have a prostate cancer test (PSA) for $8 more. Appointments are necessary for this screening and may be made by calling 332.2211.

The Myers Twig Association will share information about Child Health Plus, the WHALE (We Have A Little Emergency) program, Tree of Lights and volunteer opportunities. They will also have the Myers Coverlet (an original artwork afghan) available, which showcases northern Wayne County communities. The Twig Gift Shop will be open with many new holiday and all occasion offerings. Continental breakfast may be purchased at the Tree Top Shop Snack Bar.

Taking part in the health fair: State Police (child fingerprinting), Sheriff's Office (car seat safety checks), Cancer Action, Inc., Pines of Peace (Ontario), Mercy Flight, Sodus Ambulance, Wayne County Action Program, Finger Lakes Poison and Drug Information Center, Alzheimer's Association, Wayne County Agency on Aging & Youth, Wayne County Women's Health Partnership and many more.

The Myers Twig Association consists of 200 members who support the programs and services of ViaHealth of Wayne. The Twig Association has been active at Myers since 1956. For more information about the Myers Health Fair, call 483.3207.
