waving flag The tragedy of last week is still difficult for many. We were told of the losses, but now the news is putting faces with the names and we feel sorry for the victims as well as their families yet again. We do what we can from home to help - giving blood or donating money. You can give blood next Thursday (Sept. 27) in Newark at the Cornell Cooperative Extension from l2:30 to 6:30 p.m. or at the United Methodist Church in Williamson from 2 to 7 p.m. Every bit you do helps many people.

The Sodus Lady Spartans will hold a car wash tomorrow at the Super Duper from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross. The ladies have issued a challenge to all area high school students to come have their cars washed. It's supposed to be a beautiful day for such a thing.

Also tomorrow, the Boy Scouts will have a bottle drive at the IGA.

The column has readers from many different states as well as our own area. We have Carol from Poughkeepsie, Ralph and Norm and their wives from Florida (when the weather gets cold), Diane from North Carolina and now one I have found out about from Washington DC - Carol Dwyer. She used to live on Smith Street in Sodus and remembers Al Dobbin vividly. (Everyone knows Al. He is such a sweetheart.) Carol was just home visiting not long ago. She went to Olivia's in Wallington to see her brother, Michael Barraford. (Well, Carol I hope you had the chance to stop into Orbaker's while you were in the area.) Do any of you remember Carol (Lafler) Dwyer?

Speaking of Al Dobbin, the family has been quite busy. Sue's stepdaughter was married on September 2. Congratulations to the happy newlyweds. Al's grandson, Greg, will get married on September 29. Sue tells me that Al's oldest grandson, Geoff, who lives in Salt Lake City, UT, will be coming in for the big day. They haven't seen Geoff and his family (wife and 3 children ) in a while, so this will be a fun, catching-up visit as well. (That Al is always busy... and apparently so is his family.) Congratulations to all.

sad sarah Sodus Go Getters will meet for a dish-to-pass noon meal on Thursday, September 27. Seniors 55 and older are welcome. The program is Frances and Jill O'Bine talking about a recent trip to China.

Also next Thursday, will be the Sodus Primary Open House and Book Fair, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Get your dog's leash and register for the Dog Walk-A-Thon on Sunday, September 30. You can visit the Humane Society site here.

Don't forget the Season Fence Post craft at the Kraft Shack on September the 25 from 6:30-8:30 and please remember to register for the class. $22 will include all.

I'm glad everyone is so busy and I appreciate you sharing your events with me. Keep in touch by writing to me at

I look forward to hearing from you.
