Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

I think it's time we thought about putting away the shorts and getting out the warmer jackets. I guess the chilly weather is coming whether we're ready for it or not.

There are lots things to do this weekend, many that will be in memory of the tragic losses of September 11. Last weekend, many area firefighters had 'boot' collections for the relief efforts. Fire companies in Sodus Point, Williamson, Pultneyville, Lyons... all collecting money in their boots. The Williamson Fire Company will have another 'boot' drive tonight and has canisters at local businesses and will continue to collect funds until October 1. The canisters can be found at such familiar locations as the Original Candy Kitchen, Breen's IGA and NY Pizzeria, just to name a few.

bunnies on pumpkin Williamson Fire fighters will also attend a service tonight at Williamson High School. A County-wide Memorial Service will be held tomorrow in Lyons at 4 p.m. in front of the County Courthouse.

There are also some fun things to do: Tonight, there will be a Sundae Social at the Williamson Reformed Church from 6-9 p.m. Tomorrow, there's a Chicken Barbecue at the Sodus Point Fire Hall from noon until sold out.

On Sunday, there's the Humane Society's Dog Walk A Thon in Newark at Silver Hill Technology Park on Rte. 88 from noon to 5 p.m. (The weather is supposed to be perfect.) You will enjoy an afternoon of fun and prizes for whole family. This is the 5th Annual Walk A Thon to benefit domestic animals of Wayne County. To participate you must be registered.

The next Sodus Chamber of Commerce meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Nick's Family Restaurant on Thursday, October 4. For more information, please contact Mary Jane Mumby at 483.4067. Also watch for fliers for information about the Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner Theater to be held at Cinelli's Country House Restaurant and Maxwell Creek Bed and Breakfast.

Also, don't forget the Fall Foliage Train rides. If Fall is going to come anyway, you should definitely enjoy it.

The weather in Maui is as to be expected to be beautiful with a nice trade wind. (Patty shares her nice weather with us and I send her pictures of snow. We'll soon have plenty of snowy days to share.)

Al Dobbin will be going to a wedding on Saturday. I'm sure the Dobbin Family will be doing some singing in celebration of the happy couple.

fall scene At the Kraft Shack on Monday, October 1 is One Stroke Painting from 6:30-9:30 p.m. You can learn how to paint beautiful roses using the One Stroke Method. $30 (supplies are extra). Please don't forget to register for this class.
