My Labor Day holiday began with water in the cellar. Can no one dredge the ditch or plug the storm sewers?

Kristin Ververs of Hannibal visited her grandparents, Pearl and Henry Ververs of the Marion Road, the week of the Palmyra Fair. Last week Kristin and her brother Jim joined their grandparents camping at Selkirk Shores State Park, near Pulaski.

SEPTEMBER 7, 1944: Climax of a busy starting day for the faculty of Marion school came in the evening when the entire staff, numbering about 80 including families, gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Williams White for the annual picnic.

September 14 will be Open Gym Night at the Second Reformed Church Educational Building.

September 7 (today) Back to School Dance sponsored by the Yearbook Club.

September 11: Seventh Grade Meeting and Jewelry Sale Kick-off.

Wanted: Local in-home businesses to set up a booth for display and/or sales for the Heritage Festival on September 22. Call Julie Herman at 926.6122 or Pat Salisbury at 926.5430.

There is expansion planned at the Marion Pharmacy! They are now offering Hershey's Ice Cream products.

There's a roast beef dinner at the Legion Home on Witherden Road on Friday, September 14.

Marion Girl Scouts Junior Troop 980 attended an overnighter at the RG&E Manor House in June where they searched for fossils on the beach, did crafts, worked on badges, sang songs around the campfire and went on a nature scavenger hunt around the property. They attended the COTC program at Comstock in July, where they learned archery, how to cook over a campfire, did crafts and participated in water sports.

In August the girls attended the Monroe County Sports Festival at Frontier Fields. The girls signed up for and participated in five different sporting events of their choosing, had lunch presented by the Outback Steakhouse, and received a 'goodie' bag of free stuff at the end of the day.

Marion Girl Scouts will be holding registration on Monday, September 17, from 7-8 p.m. at the Elementary School Cafeteria. Bring $7 for the registration fee. For information call Abbey Wahl at 926.4976 or Susan Jansen at 926.1319 or Cheryl Claeysen (service unit manager) 926.5198.

Linda Bliek of Norwalk, Connecticut spent time with family members at picnics and gatherings. She enjoyed her nieces, Kasey and Holly Bliek, of Owls Nest Rd.

Joan Bornstein of Tappan, spent the Labor Day weekend with her Mother, Mil Leenhouts, of Union Street.

Diets: No bread with strawberry jam, no rich desserts, no candy, no chocolate ice cream, no French fries, no chips. Instead: carrot sticks, raw cauliflower with a low-fat yogurt dip, broiled fish, cottage cheese, lettuce with a diet dressing, one salt-free cracker. (Even if I don't live longer, it certainly will seem longer. )
