Dog Walk-A-Thon in Newark
There are goody bags for all walkers, Kongs for the first 200 pre-registered walkers, bandanas for all dogs, and long sleeve T-shirts for all participants that collect $25 in paid donations. You and your dog can volunteer to walk and earn money for the shelter by obtaining donations from family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. Awards will be given to the human (and canine) raising the most money. All registered participants will be entered and eligible in the drawing for some truly fabulous door prizes. You and your dog can elect to walk a 1, 2, 3, or 4 mile course with plenty of rest and water stops along the way. During the walk your dog can master the obstacle course, or win a ribbon in the personality contest. After the walk, enjoy a delicious chicken dinner from Burnham's Canal Side Restaurant, taste some wines from Swedish Hill Winery while listening to the live music of the Local Shepherds. Troy Driver, former morning DJ of WNNR, will hold a marathon of his own by volunteering to be locked up at the shelter in an effort to help the Humane Society raise money. You can donate money toward Troy's rabies, neuter and adoption fees. Troy is the proprietor of Pied Piper DJ Service and will be at the Walk-A-Thon playing tunes. After the Walk-a-Thon, Troy will play music non-stop, until midnight at the shelter, or until he can raise enough money to cover his adoption and associated fees. The Walk-A-Thon's guest of honor this year is Hoppy (a.k.a. Sammy). When Hoppy was brought to the shelter as a stray last year, he had an extremely severe left front leg fracture. The fracture was so severe, that the leg had to be amputated. After the surgery and a brief recovery period, the Petersons from Swedish Hill Winery adopted Sammy and changed his name to Hoppy. Generally, Hoppy can be seen at the winery in the tasting room trying to get the patrons to feel sorry for him and feed him crackers. Although the 30th of September is typically a busy weekend at the winery, Hoppy and the folks from Swedish Hill Winery will be on hand at the Walk-A-Thon. There is a $10 registration fee (with a maximum registration fee of $20 per family). You must be registered to participate. You can register in person at the Humane Society of Wayne County, 1475 County House Road in Lyons; at Newark Veterinary Hospital; Macedon Veterinary Care; Lyons Veterinary Clinic, as well as many other Wayne County veterinary offices. For more information please call 315.923.3569, the shelter at 315.946.3389 or visit our web site at www.hswaynepets.org Copyright
