History Jamboree celebrates 30th year
The first Wayne County Student History Jamboree, held June 1, 1973 at the Macedon Academy, was such a success that the committee decided to hold it again the following year. Thirty years later, the History jamboree is still going strong. The 30th Wayne County Student History Jamboree will be held at the Williamson Middle School this Saturday, April 6, from 9:30 to 1. The theme is 'Traditions.' The History Jamboree is sponsored by the Wayne County Historian's Office in cooperation with the Augustus L. and Jennie D. Hoffman Foundation; local historical societies, county schools and the Wayne County Business Council. Students submit projects reflecting some aspect of local history to be judged at local and county levels. Projects to be judged at the county level will be on display at the Williamson Middle School on the day of the Jamboree. Teams of students will also be vying for first place in a History Bowl Competition based on their knowledge of Wayne County History. Entertainment will be provided by folk singer Tom Sieling, the dance group Youth Inspiration and 'The Gatesinger Entertainers.' In addition, there will be displays by local historians, historical societies, the Hoffman Clock Museum, Wayne County Antique Dealers' Association, Wayne County 4H, a Ukrainian Easter Egg Display and more. Admission is free and refreshments will be available from the Williamson Wrestlers' Booster Club.
