Newark's Ruth Werts turns 90

Ruth Espenmiller Werts, life-long resident of Newark, celebrates her 90th birthday today.

She will mark the event this weekend with relatives from Washington, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio and Connecticut.

Sunday afternoon, April 7, she will be honored with a reception at Park Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Friends from the community are invited to join her.

Ruth and the late Frank Werts had two sons, Kurt (Linda) and Doug (Ellen). The former is the father of Carrie, Sarah and Matthew. Doug and Ellen have two children and live in Gananda.

Ruth was a kindergarten teacher for years, at Lincoln, Perkins and the former East Palmyra School. Frank was a business teacher at Newark High School.

Ruth's friends say she is 'the kindest lady they know, loved by everyone. No one has ever said an unkind word about her.' She has been a church Elder, was active in Sarah Circle, and is busy in the Presbyterian Women's Assn.

She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary from 1972-90 and also served as a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoys her garden and likes to knit. She used to paint and was once a member of the Newark Art Club.
