learn more! Kiwanians plan charity auction

The Kiwanis Club of Ontario-Williamson is planning a charity auction with Carol Ritter as auctioneer.

An airplane ride from the Williamson-Sodus Airport and an in-home gourmet dinner for eight are among the items. The auction is set for Saturday, May 4 at the Webster Columbus Center.

Donations are being sought from businesses and tickets for the event can be purchased by calling Secretary Pam Grundman at 524.5778. The $25 cost includes admission to the auction, hors d' oeuvres during social hour, cash bar at 6:30, buffet dinner at 7:30, and cocktail service at your table throughout auction.

Since February 2001, about 20 Kiwanians from Walworth, Ontario & Williamson have worked to provide service to needy individuals through a Health Bag Project and an Easter Basket Project.

Thirty-two health bags were distributed to elementary schools. These personal hygiene bags are given to the local school nurses who can distribute, at their own discretion, to children in need of personal care products. Bags are equipped with toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, shampoo, soap, deodorant, combs, Q-tips, underwear and socks.

More than 250 Easter baskets were donated to local children and distributed by the Williamson Come-Unity Center. Supplies for the baskets were donated by Breen's IGA in Williamson and the United States Postal Service.

Dave Breen, a charter member of the Kiwanis club donated 50 pounds of jelly beans to the project. Ontario Postmaster Dennis Finucane, a charter board member, was able to acquire coloring books for each basket.

There are 47 districts around the world that make up Kiwanis International.

Kiwanis Club of Newark has been working for 22 years; Kiwanis Club of Palmyra-Macedon was chartered in 2002.

Last year 8300 clubs with 300,000 members in more than 70 nations donated more than $100 million and almost six million volunteer hours for community service projects.
