Wanted: Foster Grandparents

April 21-27 is National Volunteer Week - a time to recognize the commitment of the 68 Foster Grandparent volunteers who serve with Wayne County Action Program. These folks give 63,000 hours of service each year to special needs children in the counties of Wayne, Ontario, Seneca and Yates.

Foster Grandparents volunteer in their own community in schools, daycare facilities, Head Start centers, BOCES, and Roosevelt Center. Foster Grandparents assist the classroom teacher by reading to the children, listening to them read, and helping them complete any hands-on projects the teacher has assigned them.

They go on field trips, take walks, and eat lunch with the children. As you can imagine, the children just love that extra love and attention.

President Bush has called on all Americans to step up and voluntarily give two years of service to their country. Call 946.7530 to get involved.
