All About Ginger - As old as the recorded history of man, the word ginger comes from the Sanskrit for 'horn root,' no doubt a reference to its knobby appearance, ginger is peppery and slightly sweet. The Chinese consider it a yang, or hot food, which creates harmony when balanced with cooling yin foods. Some people find ginger helpful in controlling nausea, especially from motion sickness.

Way back the folks frequenting local pubs and bars, used to drink from pint and quart sized containers. The barmaid's job was to keep a close eye on the customers and remember who was drinking from 'pints' and who drank from 'quarts.' Hence the term, 'Minding your P's and Q's'.

Have you driven by the Walker's home on Dormedy Hill Rd. and checked out their lovely new porch?

Dear Dan and Mary: With the last week's hot weather, flowers are blooming and trees are getting their leaves. I can't see the steeple on the First Church. I know that you will smile when I tell you that we had some snowflakes this week!

- and the leeks are up behind the garage - 'It's time for a ham and leek dinner!'
