Macaluso family benefit

On Sunday August 25, the Marion community will host a three-band concert along with food, dancing, face painting and other activities for the whole family at the Marion Town Park. This fun, family event will last from 2-8 p.m.

All proceeds will go to assist the immediate needs of the family of 13-year-old Nathaniel Macaluso who died in a fire at his home July 11.

Nate's mother Valerie Macaluso and three other children are in temporary housing.

'This community pulls together, and Valerie said her roots are here, and this is where she's going to stay,' said Lisa Bulger, family friend and one of the event coordinators. 'This is where her support is, where her faith family is, and she needs us as much as we need her. Val and her family are going to get through this journey with the help of the Marion Community, her faith and her church family.'

Many people have come forward in order to help pull this together. Dozens of businesses and individuals have called to offer donations of goods, services or money, in order to make the event a success. There will be raffles of all kinds of products and services.

Three local bands came forward and said they would volunteer their services for a fundraiser. Take 2 Entertainment, For Goodness Sake and Roll the Dice will perform for the crowd and take up most of the day on the stage.

Food can be purchased from the Marion Fire Department, which will sell chicken BBQ dinners, and the American Legion Auxiliary and S.A.L. which will offer hamburgers and hot dogs.

Tickets are $2 per person or $10 per family and can be purchased at the gate or at Marion businesses. Fee includes gate entrance only. Food and other amenities are sold separately.
