Pickin' Party at the Fair

The Wayne County Fair, Jackson Street, Palmyra will host a Pickin' Party featuring several local musicians next Wednesday, August 14. The Pickin' Party musical entertainment participants will consist of many local personalities.

Palmyra's own Bill Hackett and his band will kickoff the continuous show in Entertainment Alley from 6-11 p.m. The 'Pickin' Party will be reminiscent of the 'Ye, Olde Fiddlers' Picnic' but will include pre-selected entertainers like George ('Georgie Porgy') Nielsen, a former radio and stage personality; also long-time country artist, Larry Lasch. Both performers will be backed by the George and Marion O'Neill band 'Country Sounds.'

'Jam Session' will back several individual acts including, Larry Hill, former president of the 'Ye Olde Fiddlers Picnic,' playing his banjo, and Dean Roets, formerly of 'Bristol Mountain Blue Grass' and his mandolin.

Gary Comacho will sit in playing blues and rock-a-billy; Bev Owen will be singing and playing saxophone. The program will also include a jam session featuring John Dennison, Bill Owen, Pedro Vazques, Brent Morse and Dick Roland. Dick Roland will rotate with the Dave Lawrence band 'Southbound.' Several artists will be sitting in with Dave including Wayne Everdyke.

With a mix of rock-a-billy, blues, old-time country, new country, jazz, old standards and rock and roll, the Pickin' Party is a must-see at the Wayne County Fair. Bring your lawn chair and camera.
