Kids swim to raise money for pool pump

When the main pump was making its last dying sounds earlier this summer, just as the Newark Country Club pool was entering the busy season, members put their heads together to find a creative method of paying for the expensive pump (not in the budget). Without the pump, the pool could not operate.

Beth Heasley and Shelly DeVolder stepped forward with their plan to hold a Swim-a-Thon to help fund the pump repair. On August 1, seven children took to the water to swim laps for their sponsors. Each child swam at least 10 laps, raising over $950.

Pictured are children who swam laps: (front) Grant and Olivia Howard; (middle) Kevin Heasley, Joel DeVolder; (back) Emily Walpole, Katie Heasley, Jacob DeVolder.

Newark Country Club is now entering its 80th year, and has limited tee times to the public. For tee times call: 331.2911; for membership information, 331.2370.
