Finally we have settled back in to life at home without the hustle and bustle of the big city. Though were happy to be home, NYC would be fun to visit at Christmas time. I understand why Karen Castle enjoys going so often. While we were there, we couldn't help but think of September 11 and how so many peoples lives had changed.

Ralph Everdyke was reading the section of the column telling about Andy Simmons receiving the Combat Infantry Badge. Ralph received a badge in WWII and, he says that the best part about it is, still being around and being able to wear it. (Ralph, we're all glad you're still around to tell us about receiving the badge. Congratulations. Also, during WWII, you got a $10 a month raise in pay!)

Tomorrow is Build Day for the new playground in Willow Park. The Sodus Point Community Association will be joined by volunteers and friends to erect the new equipment. Hope you all have a great day - it's a wonderful project.

The Concert at the Old Sodus Point Lighthouse this Sunday ( Aug. 18) is The Rochester Scottish Bagpipe Band. (Did you see Al Dobbin at last week's concert?)

new york state fair Have you tried to the new Heluva Good Cheese dip? Their newest is Heluva Good Dinosaur Bar B Que dip. (Sounds good... I can't wait to try some.) Heluva will be attending the New York State Fair  ... On Aug. 22 at 3:30 p.m., Heluva Good and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que are hosting chef Nancy Radke for a cooking demonstration at the Demonstration Kitchen in the Arts and Home Center. On Aug. 26, they are taking it to the streets and shining up one of their delivery trucks for the Dairy Days Parade. Finally, be sure to stop by the booth in the Horticulture Building Aug. 28, to say hello and taste your favorite Heluva Good dips, cheese, and condiments.

Are you thinking of a fun way to spend some time during the weekend? Have you visited the Heritage Square Museum? You can visit a historic crossroads community of the mid-1800's. Step into the past and relive a touch of mid 19th Century Americana. They invite you to come and experience history with them. They ask a donation of $1 for non-members. Group tours are always welcome.

The Sodus Library is in their last week of summer reading, with their big finale picnic today. Splish, Splash, Read! participants are invited to a picnic on the porch at 11:30 a.m. They bring their sandwich, and the library provides beverages and dessert. At noon, everyone is invited to a juggling performance by the Jester @ Large, Ted Baumhauer. They've had a great summer at the library (July was a record-breaking month for circulation, the second year in a row!), and have seen lots of smiles from happy readers.

And last week, they were excited to have several (13) cross-country bikers stop by to check their e-mail on the library computers. They had people from Belgium, England, California, Missouri, Maine, and several places in between. They ride an average 85 miles a day. (Last summer, Jeff & Carol rode from Macedon to Fairport and back... I think that's quite an accomplishment! Good for you!) And thanks Carol for all the Sodus Library news....

letter in a bottle Lorrie Zone and the kids spent a few days at Darien Lake and Michelle Abbey went with friends to Roseland Water Park. How are you and your families enjoying the rest of the summer? Please send me a note and let me know and I'll add your family event to the column
