Lyons cemetery walk planned

The Wayne County Historical Society will hold a cemetery walk at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 13 at the Lyons Rural Cemetery on Spencer Street. Guided tours will start every 15 minutes, with the last performance beginning at 7:15 p.m.

This year's cast of characters and their performers include:

former Wayne County Treasurer Smith A. Dewey, played by Wayne County Treasurer Tom Warnick;

the first woman physician in Wayne County Dr. DeLavenna Burroughs, played by present-day Wayne County physician Dr. Suzanne Prestwich;

former Wayne County sheriff's daughter Theresa Collins, played by her great-grandniece LarryAnn Evans;

former Wayne County sheriff's son Jerry Q. Collins, played by eight-year-old George Dobbins;

former hardware store owner Samuel Hecox, played by present hardware store owner Sean Dobbins;

former Lyons Village Treasurer Joseph Demmon, played by Lyons Town Clerk Sal Colatarci;

Mary Frances Hovey, murderer of her father Hiram, played by Jessica Sheehe;

and Hiram Hovey, devoted father of Mary Frances, played by John Gibbon;

former stationmaster on the Underground Railroad Columbus Croul, played by Tom Shear;

former station agent for the New York Central Railroad Company Cullen Foster, played by Bob MacDuffie;

former merchant J. C. Meyers, played by Tom Sawtelle;

former variety store owner George Bourne, played by John Salone; and

George Strang, played by Randy Mitchell.

Tickets are on sale at the Society office and should be purchased prior to Sept. 13. The size of the groups will be limited. Tickets are $5 and free for children who are accompanied by an adult. The rain date is September 20.
