August 1941 - Farmers in this vicinity are receiving high prices for their celery. Several have sold at $5.00 per crate. William DeFisher, a farmer living in the eastern part of the town, recently completed an $18,000 deal, selling the crop on 15 acres, for that amount to Rae-Mere Farm Products, a local produce firm. Another farmer sold three acres for $3,000, one farmer refused $1,000 per acre for six acres of celery. The price is in sharp contrast to several years ago when celery moved slowly at 75 cents per crate. Farmers are having to pay $5.00 and $6.00 per day for help to gather their crops and find it difficult to get labor at that price. 'To keep homemade cookies from becoming stale, put them in a jar and place it in a roomful of children.'
