Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

It won't be long now and the kids will be on their way back to school. (While some parents will feel sad to see the little ones leave, many will rejoice at the prospect of the quiet house.) When I was in Sodus a bunch of us would go out to breakfast to celebrate, but it has been nice not having to go grocery shopping alone and to have someone to keep me company during the day.

There's a Roast Beef dinner tonight at the Wolcott American Legion from 5 - 8 p.m.

This weekend's Sunday concert at the Point is Tim Allan Banjo & Guitar. The season's almost over...

The last outdoor movie at Sodus Point will be next Saturday on August 31. George of the Jungle starts at sunset, The Perfect Storm is on at 11. There will be a DJ from 5-8 p.m. with High Energy Juggling Spectacular. There will be Horse and Wagon rides ($2.) and Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides ( $l0 ). Mark your calendars - you won't want to miss the last one.

Maureen Parks wrote to me to let me know they have free food giveaway on the third Tuesday of the month at the Family Resource Center starting at 1 p.m. until gone - 7172 Buerman Road. No eligibility requirements. Maureen is the Director of the Family Resource Center, Wayne County Action Program Inc. on Buerman Rd. in Sodus.

Sodus Chamber News: President Jim Hopkins presented $500 scholarships to Krystal Deon, Aaron Krenzer and Jon Zecher. Congratulations to each of them. The August meeting was cancelled - the new meeting for the Chamber will be on Thursday, September 5 at Nick's Family Restaurant and is open to the public.

Betty Steffler will be on her way back to Florida soon. She came up to see Julie's new baby. (Congratulations, Julie.)

Mark Your Calendars: Mike Garlock the NYDU Vice State Chairman sent me a note to let us know about their 21st annual Ducks Unlimited fundraising Banquet Sept. 6, at the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club. This is considered by the Clubhouse Steward as the best party of the year. Fun is had by all and over $20,000 is raised to support wildlife conservation in NY and Canada.

Thanks to everyone who has sent me information for the column, it is greatly appreciated. Remember: everyone is welcome to send things to be added. Just write to me at

mgoodcooke@yahoo.com

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
