Gala fundraiser for SOS

SOS (Save Our Sodus) is planning its second annual fundraising gala celebration, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, at the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club. Preceding the dinner, a reception is planned to be held at the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. Entertainment will be included.

Last year, the event was highly successful and a complete sellout. SOS is in need of funds to continue work toward its mission, which is simply to improve, protect and preserve the quality of water in the Sodus Bay Watershed. The watershed includes portions of the towns of Huron, Sodus, Rose, Galen and Lyons. It also includes the Village of Sodus Point.

SOS is a rapidly-growing, enthusiastic, public organization, a 501 (C) (3) corporation, and numbers its membership in excess of 500 interested citizens. It is just three years old, is currently active and has a written plan for future activities. It is operated entirely by volunteers and more volunteers are needed for its projects. Please call 483.4125 to volunteer.

This summer, SOS held a series of litter pick-up events on both land and sea, erected 'carry in - carry out' signs at four strategic locations around the Bay in cooperation with the Town, County and Village Highway Departments. It also co-sponsored organic chemical workshops in cooperation with Grandpa's Nursery and co-sponsored events with the Wayne County Water Quality Coordinating Committee. It is engaged in water sampling on the Bay and its streams and was recently lauded by Senator Mike Nozzolio in announcing an $80,000 grant for a new weed cutter to be used primarily on Sodus Bay. Full text of Senator Nozzolio's announcement can be found at www.senatornozzolio.com

SOS supports the proposed pipeline project which suggests running a sewer line from Sodus Point Village to the 'sand bar' as well as a project dredging of the Sodus Bay channel to a reasonable depth for safe navigation and flushing of the Bay. More information about SOS can be found at its website, www.saveoursodus.org

The dinner and reception is by reservation only. For reservation information for the gala dinner celebration, as well as information about corporate sponsorships, please call David and Sue Williamson at 483.6865 or Al and Hope Fagan at 483.4647.
