Boy Scouts collect 60 tons of food

On November 9, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers collected 60 tons of canned and packaged food for 33 area food pantries.

All of the food the Scouts collected stayed right in the four-county area, most of it right in the community in which it was collected. Food pantries in the four-county area have come to depend on the annual Scouting For Food to help them through the difficult holiday period.

Officials of the Geneva-based Finger Lakes Council emphasize that 60 tons of food may seem like a lot to be collected and distributed in one day, but it does not come close to meeting the needs of the food distribution organizations in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca and Yates Counties. These organizations have a year-round need for food donations, which can be met by taking food directly to the food cupboard in your town.
