New owner of historic Messinger home Don and Thelma Messinger, of Clyde, are pictured here, welcoming Dan Lau (left), new owner of the home of the late Lucille Messinger. Lucille grew up in the house at 21 East Main Street, Sodus and lived there at the time of her death, in August 2000, at age 96. Lucille was the daughter of Perry Messinger, who started the Heluva Good Cheese Company and later sold it to George 'Geff' Yancey. Perry Messinger was also the Judge of the Sodus Village Court; and this historic house served as the court house. Don Messinger, Lucille's younger brother and executor of her estate, also grew up in this house. He owned and operated Messinger's Variety Store in Williamson for many years, and closed Messinger's Variety Store in Clyde when he retired last August at age 92. Mr. Messinger 'had hoped that someone who would love the history of this old house would buy it and fix it up.' Lau is doing just that. His renovation began after he contracted to buy the property. Don and Thelma went to see the house with their son, Don and his wife, Sally, who were visiting from Cleveland, Ohio. They love the work that Dan had already started. Dan says he's 'lucky to have found this beautiful house with high ceilings, plaster walls and hardwood floors.' Best of luck to Dan in his new Sodus home.
