Happenings Graveside services were held on January 28 at the Marion Cemetery for former Marion resident, Martha Curtis-Hall, who died at age 93. She was the daughter of Aaron and Bertha Curtis; her grandparents were the Richards family. Martha is survived by nieces and cousins. Congratulations to Ed and Doris Krocke on the occasion of their 61st wedding anniversary on January 25. 'What you are is God's gift to you, what you become is your gift to God.' Happy 90th birthday wishes to Hilda Delue on Jan. 27, from family and friends. The Legion roast beef supper will be Feb. 8, starting at 4:30. Family style and delicious. John and Eileen Ballesty spent the weekend with their son, Dan (and Joyce), and their grandchildren, in Erie, PA. February 8: Youths invited to meet at Shoeshine Johnny's Student Coffeehouse; 7:30-10 p.m. at the Scarlet Thread Student Center; $5 donation at the door. January 16, 1941: Students of #13 school and their teacher, Miss Ella Horton, will entertain another district school on Tuesday. Principal Mosher will take a movie and show it as a treat! Richard Hayes is presently a patient at the Rochester General Hospital. In 1796, a young lady named Amelia Simmons published what would become 'The mother of all cookbooks!' to follow in the USA. Before all had been reprints of European works, written by men and written by men cooks. 'American Cookery' published the earliest clear pairing of our Thanksgiving classics, cranberries and Turkey and the first recipes anywhere using cornmeal as the primary ingredient. Amelia also gave us the very first recipes for pumpkin pie, Indian pudding, rice pudding, and gingerbread. Here, too, were the first words of 'Cookie' and 'Slaw' - both borrowed from the Dutch in America. Jerry Ellsworth spent the weekend with his mother, Eunice, in celebration of her birthday on January 26. On February 25, the East Palmyra Christian School, located at 2023 East Palmyra-Port Gibson Rd., Palmyra, will host a ham dinner. Serving hours are from 5-7:30. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the school at 597.4400. Please have your reservations made by February 13. They will also have greeting cards, Rada Cutlery, Book Sox, napkins, and mints for sale during the dinner. Marion Sports On Jan. 18 the varsity girls basketball team beat North Rose-Wolcott 48-33. Mary Boerman led with 14 points and Katie Lewis added 12. Marion jayvee girls defeated NRW 47-20. Chrissy DeFisher led with 13 points and five assists, Hannah Lawliss scored 10 points and six steals, Roberta Rosen had 10 points, 12 rebounds, Danielle DeLyser and Deanna Nortier combined for 10 points and 14 rebounds.
