Happenings Over the weekend, Gord and I traveled to Miller's Mills, to visit with our friend Doris Huxtable and to see their ice-harvesting event. We had a little time to visit, but, as usual, Doris was busy with a raffle and answering questions, as she is the Town Historian there. The harvesting of ice is an old, necessary winter chore before the days of electric. We even met some of the Loucks family there. Since the weather was balmy, we chose to come home by Route 20, one of my favorite trails, but not to be attempted in the general winter. It is a beautiful, inspirational drive during the summer months. Plan a trip this summer! Mark your calendar! July 21, Miller's Mill, Sundae Run and Road Race and Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Ike, Nan and Nellie DeWispelaere went to Clemson, SC to see their daughter, Laura, and her husband, Rich Aeronberg, who was inducted in the college hall of fame at Clemson University for his swimming accomplishments. He was four-time All-American and holds Clemson records. He won five gold medals and one silver in 1989 and has surpassed former Olympian Mark Spitz. He is presently Coach of Swimming at Nazareth College in Rochester. Attending the ceremony - his parents from Myrtle Beach, brother from Victor, with Laurie and the boys, Jonathan and Ryan. February 17, 1917: This town is still in the grips of a fierce blizzard. At eight o'clock Monday morning the thermometer registered 8 below at the Newark and Marion Railway Station. The railway was snowed in for a week and after being clear for a day it was again out of commission. The mail and passengers are being carried overland by sleigh. This evening: Family Night Rollerskating Party, sponsored by the PTA, 7-8:30 in the Elementary School Gym. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Correction: Dear Ed and Marie Louise, thanks for compiling the index for our first two Marion Legion Baseball Cook Books. It makes it easier to find our favorite recipes. If anyone would like a copy, just let me know. Happy 98th Birthday to Joe Bushart on February 9. The United Church team was a winner in the 'Souper Bowl of Caring.' $124 and 73 canned goods were collected for the Marion Food Pantry. Please come see our exhibit tomorrow, February 16 from 10-2 at the Marion Museum. Copyright
