Scouts hold Pinewood Derby in Clyde

Clyde-Savannah Cub Scout Pack 162 held their annual Pinewood Derby recently - one of the largest events for Cub Scouts.

There were 27 boys in attendance. The crowd filled the fire hall of the Chartered Sponsor Organization, the Clyde Volunteer Fire Dept.

The Pack's four-lane aluminum track was center stage for the competition. Race fans were treated to 24 rounds (a round being seven races). This gave even the biggest race fan a total of 168 races to enjoy. It was round-robin format.

The Pack will be represented at the Iroquois District races by the top four finishers.

Finishing in first place, and undefeated, was Zachariah Mein.

Second place was taken by Nathaniel Saunders running the 'Thumper Mobile.'

Third-place finisher was Bradley Stickles.

In fourth place was Aaron VanCurren.

The announcer was Rick Thorn. He called out each race and racer, and he kept the crowd informed of the pizza arrivals. He also announced the lucky winners of the door prizes. Community support came in the form of donations of food, money, and gift certificates.

Many grown-ups helped the scouts build their cars, worked on the track, track set-up, take down, or in the kitchen or fire hall clean up. The Scouts send thanks to all.
