'Outhouse' program at Williamson library
Says Adriaansen, 'People seem to enjoy the journey back to a simpler - although less convenient - time.' Older people enjoy reminiscing, and younger people who have never had an 'outhouse experience' enjoy learning about another way of life. Adriaansen, who has lived in Marion since her marriage and who has raised three sons and a daughter there, has been town historian since 1973. At that time, Marion was celebrating its sesquicentennial and Adriaansen found that accurate information about its early history was at a premium. She was interested in local history, and began to work to collect and organize documentation of Marion's past. Recognizing her enthusiasm and talent, Marion's town leaders asked her to be the town historian. Sandwiched In begins at noon in the library's Community Room. The program is free and open to the public. Lunches are optional and may be reserved by calling the library at 589.2048 by 8 p.m. on Monday, January 14. Editor's Note: Carolyn also writes for the Courier-Gazette, and her weekly column is posted each Friday here on the Digital Edition.
