Happenings RESOLUTIONS - A clean slate. In order to have a clean slate on which to start the New Year, people in times past have made certain that they had no debts outstanding and that all borrowed objects had been returned. The day was begun in high spirits with the past forgotten. Those were the days, of course, before such complexities as credit buyings. The New Year's Resolutions, which we are so fond of, represent other efforts to make the year brand new. In fact, we often say that in the New Year we are turning over a 'new leaf.' 'We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.' Happy 57th Wedding Anniversary Wishes to Bob and Erma Clark on January 3. January 4, 1951: The annual Christmas Ball was held Thursday evening at Marion Central School. Under the direction of Mrs. Charlotte VerPlank, Dominic Guzzetta and John Wolanyk, members of the Student Council, decorated the gym with Christmas trees, lights and snowmen to give an attractive setting for the occasion. A tradition at our home is to serve all new recipe dishes on January 1. This year we began with asparagus and marinated mozzarella, followed by elegant chicken breasts, scalloped onions, squash, cabbage casserole, citrus fruit salad, ending with pumpkin crisp, cheesecake and Christmas cookies. Mil Leenhouts spent the Christmas holiday with her daughter, Stuart and Joan Bornstein and family in Tappan. Paul Johnson at the Marion Pharmacy, has now added a large assortment of 'nuts and bolts' along with other hardware for our hometown shopping convenience.
