Happenings A group of us have just returned from a week-long cruise on the Golden Princess. We enjoyed scheduled stops at St. Maartens and St. Thomas and Princess Cays Islands. It all began at the Rochester airport, where I was chosen to have them search my carry-on bag. I even had to remove my shoes before boarding the plane! The weather was perfect, and if you have ever cruised, you know that the array of food cannot be imagined! There is a listing of restaurants and food courts with 24-hour service. Each island was unique. We took the island tours to get the feel of each one. At St. Thomas we drove up and up, in an open jitney, until I am sure we were close to heaven. All of the islands are surrounded by blue-green waters, so clear and beautiful, there's no matching hue in your Crayola box. We shopped, and shopped, off and on the ship, and did lots of looking. We played Bingo, attended tea times, and enjoyed the fun and rousing and beautiful shows in the evening. Our group included an assortment of ages - making for an interesting slant on all of the activities and programs offered for the cruising patrons. Make plans to take a cruise. (It's once in-a-lifetime. I have pictures to show!) Mag VandenBout flew to Chicago and spent a wonderful week with her son, Richard and Marilyn and grandchildren, Marissa, and Geoffrey and wife Melissa. She was on hand to celebrate Marissa's December 29 birthday and the December 31 birthdays of Geoffrey and Melissa. They enjoyed a special dinner at Country House. Mag attended several family gatherings and some very inspiring worship services. Congratulations! Angela J. Johnson, a 2001 graduate of Marion High School, made the Dean's List at Keuka College where she is majoring in elementary education. 'You can't have everything. Where would you put it?' The Women's Guild at the United Church is sending needed items to Bacone College. They will again assist the Wayne County Nursing Home celebrate its residents' January birthdays by purchasing small gifts for the celebrants and by serving refreshments at a party in their honor. NO SCHOOL January 21, for observance of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. JANUARY 20, 1938: Forty property owners on the Marion Williamson Road have filed a petition requesting the two towns establish a joint water district comprising a strip of land 1000 feet wide along this highway and joining the water districts already established. Thank you, George Shoales, who dropped off his finished album of information on Marion. He titled it, Olden Times About Marion, N.Y. (1800 to 2001 and counting). It's a fascinating record of his remembrances of Marion in past days. Jay and Carol Ramsey traveled to the Boston area recently where Carol attended the Irlen New England Conference. Featured speaker Dr. John Grassi, professor at Cambridge College, focused on the topic, 'The Brain and the Irlen Syndrome.' About 60 professionals from the New England area attended. Copyright
