Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

How was everyone's week? Ours was a bit on the sad side... we lost our cat Blanche to old age. It was one obstacle she couldn't beat. Many of you knew of Blanche - a few years ago, her owner put her outside to live. Since she had been a house cat, she was having a tough time. For a long time before we were able to adopt her, she lived on Sergeant Street. She slept on Al Dobbin's front porch and got hair all over his rug and Lill Burkholder's friend, Betty, fed her on many cold nights. Blanche loved everyone and seemed to adopt us even before we took her in. In fact, Frank Spano used to see her following us and said, 'There's your cat.' Well, Frank, you were right. She lived many happy years with us.

I heard from Eileen Hooper this week and she told me that the Florida temps are in the 80's. Our winter has been tame so far.

I was able to chat with Becky Clarke for a bit. She's in 6th grade already. (I guess it isn't just my kids who are growing up quickly.)

musicalmusical Saturday night (tomorrow) is the Cabaret '02 at Sodus High. Tickets at the door are $8 for the 8 p.m. show (in the gymnasium). Or call today to reserve tickets 483.2331 ext. 7046.

Monday's Martin Luther King Day celebration is in Sodus this year. (It alternates between Sodus and Lyons.) The march begins at noon on Mill Street (at the High School), then goes to the Third United Methodist Church on West Main. If you have the day off, you should plan on attending this Wayne County event. (It is a good reminder of why you have the day off.)

Save the date - Saturday, January 26. No cooking that night... head over to the Sodus Bay Sportsmen's Club for a Chicken and Biscuit Dinner, 4:30 - 8 p.m.

I haven't heard any news from Sodus or Wayne County lately, so I am really getting home sick. If you have anything you'd like to add to the column, please let me know. I can't wait to find out what everyone has been up to

Enjoy your weekend with your family - pick up some good movies and great books to share and just hibernate for a little while. Those weekends go awfully fast, don't they ?
