Matthew VerStraete took first place, followed by second place Henry Wilck, third place Jason Goossen, and fourth place Greg Wilck. Matt Atkins was in fifth place, Tyler Creller in sixth place, Nathan Phillips in seventh place, and Ted Graffius in eighth place. There are several heats to determine winners. Cub Scouts are in second through fifth grade. The top winners will go on to the District Pinewood Derby. First graders can participate in Tiger Cubs with their adult partner. Tiger Cubs Andre Green, Daniel Harter, Garrett LaValley, Nicholas Luciano, Andy Mathes and Westley Reynolds entered cars in the Tiger Cub race. And to take part in the skill and excitement there were nine non-Cub Scouts, relatives of the Cub Scouts, who entered their own race. Races were run on the wooden track owned by the Pack. The new, smoother racing takes place on steel tracks. Cub Scout Pack 109 hopes to get a new steel track. They cost around $700. A collection taken at the Pinewood Derby has netted $117 toward a new track, and outgoing Cub Master John Canne has promised to match that. Cub Scouts hope to raise money with bottle drives and other fundraisers for the new steel track.
