Lyons Lunch program marks 3rd year

The Lyons Lunch Program will celebrate its third anniversary on Friday, Feb. 8 with a special celebration lunch from 11:30-12:30. Everyone is invited.

The Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel will speak briefly on the history and philosophy of the program. The program is supported by the Inter-Church Council of Lyons, the American Red Cross and is a registered Foodlink site.

The program has also received support from the Presbytery of Geneva, and local businesses, organizations and individuals in and around Lyons. In addition to providing a free nutritious meal, the lunch is a place where friends gather to share their joys and sorrows.

There have been programs on Food Stamps, health and wellness, GED, etc. The Lunch Program has sponsored free clothing drives for guests. There are special holiday and birthday celebrations throughout the year. Many of the LLP guests volunteer to help out in some way, learning new skills and responsibilities.

Meals are served Monday through Friday from 11:30 - 12:30 at The First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, located at 11 Queen Street. On Wednesdays, there is a brief ecumenical prayer service before lunch from 11:20-11:30 led by Pastor Cynthia.

Since the program began in 1999, more than 20,000 meals have been served.

For more information on the Lunch Program, on volunteering or making a contribution, please call the coordinator, Teresa Herman at 946.4723.
