4-H'ers help local farm haven

The Trailblazers 4-H Club came last Monday to collate, fold, staple, stuff and stamp 220 envelopes with Cracker Box Palace's new brochures, wish lists, membership letters and business letters. The mailings were sent to many Wayne County's businesses.

The idea of letting businesses know about the farm came from the biggest complaint of 2001. People said they didn't know the farm existed. The Cracker Box Palace is located in Alton and is a sanctuary facility for farm animals who are neglected, abandoned or abused.

They seek not only donations, sponsorship and volunteers (which are always welcome), but also ideas.

After the 4-H'ers were done with the work, they toured the farm and met the animals and expressed an interest in doing more for the farm. A calendar of events will soon be available.

Deb Lajoie, the leader of the Trailblazers and owner of Wyndestone stables in Alton, was present along with her daughter, Briana. And the group: Jody and Laura Rolston, Mary Guerro, Amber Spickerman, Sue Hollebrandt, Danielle Davis, Jen & Hilary Weaver, Deb Brown, Amanda Timmerman and Jennifer Brooks.

Also present were some of the Palace volunteers: Theresa Elia, Jared and Mara Elia, Ryan DeWaters and Keli Madison.

If you, rour business or organization would like to become involved with the farm, contact Cheri Roloson at 483.2493.
