Membership drive at County Historical Society
The mission of the Society, which was formed in 1946, is to encourage an appreciation of the history of Wayne County through the collection, preservation, and exhibition of artifacts and to disseminate historical information about Wayne County and the surrounding area. The Society has been operating the Wayne County Old Jail Museum, a 148 year-old former sheriff's residence and attached county jail, since 1962. The Society holds annual fund-raising activities such as the September Cemetery Walk, the June Wine Tasting, and the February Starlight Gala, but the major portion of the funds needed for museum operations comes from the membership. The goal this year is to attract 100 new members. The Society offers several levels of membership, beginning with the household membership at $20 and concluding with sustaining and corporate memberships at $100. Members receive reduced prices for special events, free admission to guided Museum tours, a bi-monthly newsletter, an invitation to the Annual Gala, free use of the reference library and archives and will be offered hard-covered editions of the newest Society publication, A Gathering of Memories. Funds raised during the campaign will be used to support the operation of the Museum and the Society's many educational programs. Click here for a membership form, or call the museum at 946.4943, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
