flowersWe were in the Sodus area on July 5 we came out looking for lunch and ended up going to many places, but our timing was wrong. We stopped at Cutter's, Skipper's Landing and ended up back in Sodus where I was able to pick up the movie schedule for the Great Sodus Bay Screen.

Are you going to see the Movie at Sunset on the l3th? You can listen to the DJ Music from 5-8 p.m. The movie will be ET. Thank you to all the many sponsors who are making these movies possible. Fresh popcorn and food will be available. (What's a movie without the popcorn?) The next movie will be Ghostbusters on August 3.

If you're looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday or Sunday after noon you can discover a part of Wayne County History at Alasa Farms which was the site of a Shaker Community from l826-1838. You may visit at anytime of the year, if you would like to take a group tour, call in advance to make reservations. The Farm had their Family Farm Days the first weekend of June. (We always liked visiting Alasa Farms.)

This week's Concert at the Point will be Sunday, July 14 - the Clyde Saxton Band will be playing for your listening pleasure.

Don't forget the Circus is coming to Williamson the Kelly Miller Circus will be coming very soon so watch for the circus train to come into town.

The Olde Tyme Country Faire, sponsored by the Sodus Town Chamber of Commerce, July 26, 27 and 28. There are many fun events to attend all three days. So mark your calendars so you don't miss any of them. A Patriotic Pet Parade and Ice Cream Social will start the weekend of family fun on Friday night. The Pet Parade registration is at Culligans Water Conditioning on Belden Ave at 6:30 p.m. with parade at 7 p.m. proceeding up Belden Ave. to Main St., then to Gaylord Street and ending at the Sodus Village Barns. You do not have to be a Sodus resident to enter and all types of pets are welcome but must have proof of their rabies shot. A grand prize of $50 for the best patriotic costume for pet and handler will be awarded and other prizes will be drawn at random. Spectators may line the route or come to the Sodus Village Park for the Ice Cream Social that will start at 6 and continue during and after the parade.

Both Saturday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Sunday (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will find the parking lot of the WCTA Credit Union, just off Route 88, full of vendors. From farmers' market wares, to arts and crafts, to antiques, plus non-profit organizations, businesses, and food. The Wallington Fire Dept. will be cooking their famous chicken BBQ both days with take out will be available. Both days will also feature Betty Bugni with an amazing display of bubbles. There will be music, children's activities, and demonstrations throughout both days.

Saturday will spotlight the Antique and Classic Car show hosted by the Sodus Fire Dept. at their field beginning at 9 a.m. Also on Saturday, there will be the Jason Buyck Memorial 5K sanctioned race with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church on the corner of Belden Ave. and Main St. For more information, call Karen Buyck (315.483.8588) or email jimkaren@usadatanet.net

Bring your lawn chairs on Sunday and enjoy an outdoor Ecumenical Church Service at 10 at the WCTA Credit Union. Sunday will also feature music by Hymn and Her from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by Spirit Fire.

Yep, it's that time again - The Sodus Library started registering last week and Splish, Splash, Read! started in full swing today. Carol Garland especially wants to let everyone know about next Wednesday evening: Laurie Vela, a professional storyteller, will be presenting her Splish Splash Book Bash (say that 5 times fast!) at 6:30 p.m. She's been performing nationwide at schools and libraries since 1992. Laurie has a web page which contains a lot of free coloring pages featuring her story characters and other fun stuff. Stop by and enjoy Laurie's presentation.

If you have a schedule of events you'd like to send along, or would like to share what you've been up to this summer, please send the info along and I'll add it to the column. I can't wait to find out what's going on in Wayne County. Write to me at

Have a great week.
