5K Run honors fallen Marine

Jason Buyck On July 27 Karen and Jim Buyck will host the Jason Buyck Memorial 5K Run in the Village of Sodus.

Jason lived most of his life in Sodus. He was a Sgt. in the US Marine Corps and served as crew chief on the MV22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. Sgt. Buyck died December 11, 2000 when his aircraft crashed into a wooded area in Jacksonville, NC. He was 24 years old.

The money raised from the 5K Run next weekend will benefit the Jason Buyck Memorial Fund (A monetary award given each year to a graduating Sodus Central senior.)

The race, which has been certified 5K, begins at 9 a.m. at the Sodus United Third Methodist Church, corner of Belden and Main Streets. Registration will be open at 7:30 a.m. in the church parking lot.

T-shirts, designed by Lynn Polochock, will be free to the first 200 runners and walkers.

Free sports massages donated by Wellness Garden and Healthy Intentions will be available for runners after the race.

This event will remember and honor 23 Marines lost in Osprey crashes in April and December, 2000.
