Alloway picnic a success

About 80 residents, former residents and friends of Alloway attended the annual picnic, held July 7 at the home of Amelia Engels, 377 Water Street in Alloway. Fellowship and food were enjoyed by all.

Joey Britt led the pledge to the flag. The Rev. Cynthia Hummel offered grace.

It was announced that Jennifer Gifford and Sara Weimer each received the $50 Alloway Award, presented at Lyons Central School commencement exercises, June 26.

Shelden King was named Peppermint King and Margrette (Maggie) Nolan was named Peppermint Queen. Adrienne Mudd was named Princess. These persons rode in the Peppermint Days parade on July 13. The Alloway banner was be carried by Stephen Britt and Ben Uveges.

The Alloway picnic is held each year on the Sunday following July 4. In 2003, it will be held on July 6.
