Happenings Our appreciation and thanks go to Mary Ellen's Main Street Cafe for feeding all of the firemen who assisted in the horrific fire we had in Marion last week. Congratulations to Geoff and Karen Hayden who will be celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary on July 20. Ernie Boss is at home recuperating after a stay in the hospital. Hilda DeLue continues her recuperation at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Jay Milliman is home from Rochester General following surgery. Nellie DeWispelaere is doing fine following eye surgery. Special Music during the offertory on July 14, at the Second Reformed Church, was a woodwind duet by Cathy Thomas and Amy Thomas. Last week upon returning home from errands, I found the most darling 'miniature privy' on my back steps. Turns out it is a gift from my cousin and husband, Betty and Bob Chappell. Another addition to the program. EGGPLANT- Purplish, meaty vegetable whose taste - when cooked - which depends considerably on the method of preparation, and there are many - has been variously compared to burnt liver, fried sandals, scorched clams, a wallet, old magazines, and mud. JULY 23, 1898: Berry harvest will close this week. Pickers that formerly picked 100 quarts a day, this year can get only 30 to 50 quarts a day. The Rev. Kevin Bushart with wife, Kim, and daughters Hayley, Hannah and Heather, have returned to their home in Odessa, TX after a week-long visit with Kevin's parents, Stanley and Isabelle Bushart. While in Marion they enjoyed visiting with friends and family, climaxed with a family get-together and picnic on Tuesday. Thursday, they joined Marion Happy Travelers for a trip to Cooperstown, following the bus in their van. Good-byes were said at the train station in Milford after a two hour train ride. The younger Busharts traveled home while their parents and the rest on the bus visited Fly Creek Cider Mill before returning to Marion. Don't forget the Pioneer Gas Engine Show, July 26-27-28. Let's Travel Do you enjoy Bill Gaither music? We have an opportunity to hear a Gaither get-together in Buffalo on September 6. We will travel by motorcoach and eat at the Olde Country Buffet in Buffalo before the concert. Good music, good company, no parking worries-come and join us for this special time. All ages welcome. There is still room on the Warren, PA trip August 1. This includes a visit to the Blair Company store in Warren as well as time at their outlet stored outside of town. Dinner afterward will be at Sprague's Maple Farms in Portville, NY where you'll enjoy a turkey dinner, learn about maple syrup production and visit their gift shop and nature center. This is an exceptionally good restaurant! A few spots are left on the Thousand Islands trip on August 22. Visit Boldt Castle which has been newly remodeled, enjoy a cruise and luncheon. Contact Isabelle Bushart at 926-7754 for any of these trips. Marion residents may be eligible for a discount!
