Dairy Princesses and Fair news I'm the new 2002-2003 Wayne County Dairy Princess. Prior to this year's crowning as Dairy Princess, I have held the position of Dairy Ambassador for two years, Alternate Dairy Princess for one year, and I was the 1998-99 Wayne County Dairy Princess. (Pictured here: Dairy Princesses and Ambassadors: Mary Anna Boerman, Elizabeth Boerman, Jessica Boise, Katie Andrew and Hannah Andrew.) Since then I have been a committee member of the Dairy Princess Program and, when offered, I eagerly accepted the role of Dairy Princess once again this year. In 1999 I graduated from Marion and am currently a senior attending the State University of New York College at Fredonia, with a double major in Elementary Education and Applied Music. I live on our family dairy farm with my parents Stephen and Jeanne Boise and younger brother Nicholas. I have two older sisters, Kimberley Kemp and Stefanie Boise. In high school, I was busy with 4-H for 13 years, showing cows at the Wayne County Fair, Jr. Holstein Club, dairy judging and Dairy Quiz Bowl. Elizabeth Boerman is one of the Alternate Dairy Princesses. She resides in Marion and is the daughter of David and Ann Boerman. Elizabeth graduated from Marion in 2001 and now attends the University of Rochester where she is studying foreign languages. In high school she was very active in 4-H, showing cows at the Wayne County Fair, National Honor Society, Model UN, Varsity Club, Student Council and in sports such as cross-country, basketball and track. Elizabeth was the 2001-02 Wayne County Dairy Princess and continues to be very active in the Dairy Princess Program. Mary Anna Boerman is also a 2002-2003 Alternate Dairy Princess from Marion. In the past Mary Anna has been a Dairy Ambassador and last year she, was the 2001-2002 Alternate Diary Princess. She is a long-term member of 4-H and is involved in Dairy Bowl, model UN, yearbook committee and also in sports such as soccer, basketball and track. She is going to be a junior at Marion High School in the fall where she stays consistently on the honor roll. Katie and Hannah Andrew are the 2002-2003 Dairy Ambassadors. They are the daughters of George and Colleen Andrew and live in Newark. Katie is 15 years old and in the 10th grade. She has fun playing sports and participating in 4-H. Last year, as Dairy Ambassador, she enjoyed helping out with school programs, promoting milk at the Wayne Country Fair and serving ice cream at Fun on the Farm. Katie works at El-vi farms where her father is a partner. Her responsibilities include milking, feeding calves and other various chores. Katie loves the farm and owns several Jersey cows of her own. Hannah is 13, a 9th grader, who enjoys skiing, soccer and softball. She is an active 4-H member, participates in dairy quiz bowl, public presentations, clothing revue and other project areas. Hannah's responsibilities on the farm include feeding calves and milking. She owns Brown Swiss cattle which she has a great time showing at the County Fair. I just recently attended a training seminar at the White Eagle Conference Center in Hamilton, given by the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council. Here, all the Dairy Princesses from around the state gathered. We learned all about bur responsibilities as Dairy Princesses, about all aspects of dairy production, including what the daily recommended servings of dairy products are for different ages, and the calorie measures and nutrient levels of various dairy products. This knowledge will be useful for me so that I will be well-informed when speaking to groups in Wayne County and neighboring counties. Next February, I will compete with the other county Dairy Princesses for the title of New York State Dairy Princess. In this annual competition, the girls are judged on dairy product knowledge, public speaking, writing a newspaper article and how well they do in several interviews. We'll see you at the Wayne County Fair this August 12-17 at the booth in the 4-H Dairy Barn. We will meet many people and talk with them about dairy products and the dairy industry. If you are interested in having me or any of the Wayne County Dairy Princess court give a presentation to your group or are interested in becoming involved in the program yourself, call 483.8258.
