Happenings Sunday, July 28 a benefit car wash is planned for the Macaluso family. This car wash is hosted by the employees of JRLON, Inc. in Palmyra. The wash will be held at the Stanton Ag building on North Main St. from 9 to 3. Proceeds will go to St. Gregory's Church, for the Macaluso family. Rain date is August 4. Marion's Legion Baseball team had the privilege of playing one of their last games at Colburn Field in Newark, under the lights! This field is in great shape, well kept, not like our own sandbox. Marion and Newark both played well and family and friends enjoyed the encounter from the bleachers. CORRECTION: The number for calling Isabelle Bushart when reserving a place on her bus trips is 926.7764. My favorite recipe for eggplant is: CAPONATA (eggplant appetizer) In large skillet saute one peeled and cubed medium-sized eggplant in 1/3 cup oil about 10 minutes or until tender and browned. Remove and set aside. In same skillet saute 1/2 cup chopped onion and one clove crushed garlic until onion is tender. Add 1/2 cup chopped celery, three peeled, chopped tomatoes, 1/4 cup sliced ripe olives, 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, 1.5 tsp. each salt and sugar, and the eggplant; simmer 20 minutes. Chill, pack into containers. Refrigerate up to one week and freeze up to six months. Makes 4 cups. (I serve it warm, as a casserole) JULY 25,1914: Among those who recently had their premises connected with the Marion Water System are: C.R. Sweezey, H.B. McOmber, William Henion, and Miss N. Henion, George Topping and Grover Ryan. Congratulations to Craig and Ellen (Shaffer) Butler on the birth of daughter Corrin Janelle on July 9. Congratulations to Art and Laura Tierson who recently celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary. Eunice Ellsworth is now at her Sunset Drive apartment after a stay at the hospital. JULY 29, 1916: The hydrants of the water system are receiving a coat of brilliant red paint, which will make them plainly visible either against the green of summer or the snow of winter. Thanks to grants from the Palmyra Rotary and Senator Mike Nozzolio, we have purchased many new items for the Teen Area. We have lots of new graphic novels, new magazines and more paperback books. We have also purchased a number of board games to be used in the library. Come in, browse around and relax in our Teen Cafe at the library.
