Deputy Joe Croft and Rex Deputy Croft and Rex visit Kiwanians

Deputy Joe Croft and his Czech-born German shepherd Rex were the program on July 25 at the Newark Kiwanis meeting.

Not yet three years old, Rex specializes in explosives detection, building searches, tracking and patrol work. Rex came to the United States before he was one year old. Croft has been with the Wayne Co. Sheriff's Dept. for four years.

Croft talked about Rex's duties, and about the intensive explosives discovery training earlier that day.

The Wayne Sheriff's K-9 Unit includes two shepherds, Quigley the yellow Lab, and one bloodhound.

Deputy Joe Croft and Rex The Kiwanians will welcome Kelly Hermenet on August 8, to talk about her studies in criminal justice, and her internship with Newark Police Dept. Hermenet was the Kiwanis Scholarship winner in 1996.
