Veronica Gobeyn Memorial Run held Saturday in Sodus

Karen and Jim Buyck hosted the Jason Buyck Memorial 5K Run in the Village of Sodus last Saturday. Their son Jason was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps and served as crew chief on the MV22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. He was killed December 11, 2000, when his aircraft crashed into a wooded area in Jacksonville, NC. He was 24 years old.

The run honors all 24 marines lost in Osprey crashes in April and December, 2000.

senior runner Jason ran cross country on the Sodus Central team. The money raised from the 5K Run will benefit the Jason Buyck Memorial Fund. This goes into a scholarship for a Sodus graduate who shares Jason's values: Love for God and Country, moral courage, integrity and kindness, and caring towards others.

Free sports massages donated by Wellness Garden and Healthy Intentions were available for runners after the race.

At any time, donations may be made payable to the Jason Buyck Memorial Fund and mailed to: Karen Buyck, 8093 Ridge Rd., Sodus 14551.
