Lyons pastors together on Peppermint Sunday

The Inter-Church Council of Lyons held an ecumenical worship service in the park on Peppermint Sunday 2002. The Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church preached. Her sermon was titled 'Play Ball.'

She spoke about the council as a team working together in Christ to serve the needy in Lyons. She welcomed five new pastors to Lyons.

Pictured are Rev. Cassandra Salter-Smith, Rev. Gary Sawtelle, Rev. Felicjan Sierotowicz, Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel, Deborah Housel, Rev. King Lewis, Rev. Mark Stiegler, and Rev. Jack Bailey.

The new pastors are: The Rev. Mark Stiegler, who is the new curate at Grace Episcopal; Deborah Housel, pastoral administrator at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church; The Rev. Felicjan Sierotowicz, Sacramental Minister at St. Michael's; Rev. King Lewis at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist; Rev. Cassandra Salter-Smith, at Lyons United Methodist.

The Rev. Jack Bailey, of St. John's Lutheran Church and co-convener of The Inter-Church Council of Lyons, celebrated the ministries of The Rev. Bill Barrett, who recently retired from St. Michael's; The Rev. Gary Sawtelle, retiring from Grace Episcopal; and Rev. Jim Carroll from the United Methodist Church who has taken a new assignment. Some of the ministries of the Inter-Church Council of Lyons include The Lyons Food Pantry, The Lyons Lunch Program, Ecumenical Vacation Bible School, The Thrift Store and Operation Tidy Bottom.
