Raptors to start baseball season

The Wayne County Raptors are soon to start their season of New York Collegiate Baseball in Colburn Park in Newark.

The Wayne County Raptors are an NCAA Sanctioned Wood Bat League - one of ten in the country. The players do not get paid to play baseball, which would cause them to loose their amateur status and their athletic scholarships.

Going into the fifth season, admission is still only $2 and the best entertainment in town.

Dave Herbst, comes to the Raptors as manager this season. His coaching experience has been with the Barge Bandits, the Geneva Knights and the Geneva Redlegs. Dave also has worked with the Rochester Red Wings and is a Major League Scout for the Texas Rangers. He has a complete coaching staff and is bringing Matt Nein to Newark from Towson University, (a past Raptors player) as assistant pitching coach.

The Raptors play an exhibition game against Geneva on Tuesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. Free admission and giveaway

Thursday (June 6), the team will play at Geneva, 7 p.m. and Friday (June 7), at Hornell.

All home games are at Colburn Park, Rt. 31 East, Newark; to purchase tickets, call 483.8850 or 331.0888.

Watch for more.
