Newarkfest this weekend
food at Newarkfest

Changes have been made to this year's Newarkfest, so that the downtown event will be one of the most enjoyable ever.

One difference you'll notice is the enforcement of the open container laws. Alcoholic beverages will be sold in fenced areas only. Traffic patterns will change so that motorists will have access to businesses adjacent to Central Park. There will be no pets allowed at the festival, and the Friday and Saturday night stage shows will end promptly at 10 p.m.

Friday's show is a Country Jamboree that begins at 6 p.m. Host band: Donna & The Mystics. On Saturday night, Ruby Shooz takes the stage at 6 p.m. When the show ends at 10 p.m., festival go-ers will be treated to a downtown fireworks display. (Organizers say you won't want to miss it.)

There will be over 100 vendors from 4 p.m. Friday, and continuous entertainment in Central Park on Saturday and Sunday.

The Newark Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Bed Race at noon Saturday; Newark Kiwanians will hold their annual Peanut Sale; and Arcadia Democrats raffle a portable gas grill. The Newark Public Library will sponsor the 5K Reader's Run; there will be a golf tournament at the Newark Country Club on Sunday; and if running or golf aren't for you, register for the Wayne County Motorcycle Club Poker Run (sign up 9-11 a.m. Sunday at the Elks Club.)

And don't forget - right down the street is St. Michael's Parish Festival - rides, food, games of chance, raffles.

There'll be plenty for the whole family to enjoy, so don't miss a moment of the fun. See you in Newark!
