The time is getting closer for Summer Vacation. The kids are checking off the days on the calendar

dog Tomorrow (Saturday, June 8), there's a Yard and Baked Good Sale at St. John's Episcopal Church, 54 West Main St., Sodus, from 9 to 2. If you get hungry for lunch, they'll have hot dogs from 11:30 to 2.

This is a weekend of great fun at the Sodus Bay Yacht Club on Irwin St. in Sodus Point. On exhibit will be canoes, rowboats, runabouts, racing boats and sailboats. Exhibitors will be members of various Antique and Classic Boat Societies as well as area enthusiasts and restorers. Visit their site to see a complete listing of events - Parade of Boats; food and beverages; wine tasting; live music and a marine gear tag sale on the lawn. Local artists will be exhibiting and selling their work including watercolor and historical prints. Head to the Point!

School news: The Sodus Kindergarten class went on a field trip to the Seneca Park Zoo during the past week. The First Grade went on a trip to Lollypop farm and, on June 12, the Second Grade will go on a field trip to Sodus Point. Also on Wednesday, June 12, the Kindergarten Play will be at the High School Auditorium - dress rehearsal at 2 and the performance is at 6. The Pre-K will have their End of the Year Ceremony on Thursday, June 13 from 4 - 8 p.m. on the playground. (...Seems like yesterday my daughter was graduating from Pre-K.) There will be no Pre-K classes on Friday. This Sunday (June 9) will be the Girl Scout Fly Up Ceremony at the cafeteria at l2:30.

zebra The Gatesinger Company, Ltd. of Pultneyville will be holding auditions for the first ever 'Summer by the Lake in the Hall, one-act play marathon.' The Gatesingers will be presenting a series of one-act plays August 2, 3 and 9, 10.

Needed are adults between the ages of 17 to 70 to perform in one or more of the plays. Some plays are 10 minutes long and others are longer. Directors and stage technicians are needed, too. Call Jay Hanagan at 789.8857, Mike Mulberry at 483.6785 or leave a message at the Gates Hall Box Office, 589.3386 or e-mail Jay at jhanagan@lycos.com

Maureen Parks wrote to me and would like to spread the word about the wonderful Food$ense Program. Maureen is the Director of the Family Resource Center in Sodus. For $15.50 you can sign up to receive a unit of food (worth much more). You can also choose to buy the specials of the month. Delivery is at the end of the month. This is a great way to stretch your food budget. Everyone is welcome. They take food stamps or cash. The Center also has community services to assist people who are looking for work; need emergency food boxes; clothing and furniture to low-income families of Wayne County. For more dog information, contact Maureen Parks at 483.8080.

If you're not at the Point this weekend, then you'll probably be in Newark: St. Michael's Parish Festival and Newarkfest.

If you have events you'd like to share, dates that are important to you, or a recipe - even a good book to recommend, please write to me at

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
