Old autograph books on display

photo albumBack in country school days, almost every student owned an autograph book in which classmates wrote a verse or two of nonsense.

Tonight (Monday, June 17), there will be a mini-display at the Marion Museum from 3 p.m. of some of these lovely sentiments, many of which will that bring a smile to your face.

A few that Carolyn especially liked were:

'2 Y's U R, 2 Y's Y B, I C U R 2 Y's 4 me!'

'If I were a bunny and had a tail of fluff, I'd sit upon your dresser and be your powder puff.'

'Kisses have germs, so it's stated. Kiss me baby, I'm vaccinated!'

or

'True sincerity is speaking as we think, believing as we pretend, acting as we profess, performing as we promise and being as we appear.'

Maybe you have favorites that you remember from your 'School Days!'

The cover of the book shown here is just one example. It is the Autograph Book of Warren H. Curtis (1861-1934). Once a clerk and Postmaster at the Marion Post Office, he was born at the Curtis Homestead on 3765 Mill St., and married Luella Sweezey. His book was donated to the Marion Museum in 1984 by niece, Margaret Curtis.
