Talk on old Clyde photographs

The public is invited to a program on newly-discovered, dry plate glass negative photographs of Clyde.

The display and talk will be held on Monday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Williamson United Methodist Church Education Building, 4146 E. Main Street. The basement meeting room is handicapped accessible.

The Galen Historical Society will tell the story of its important find of 230 dry plate glass negatives in the now-closed Messinger store. The negatives are presumed to be the work of a Clyde photographer named Shipler between 1880 and 1910.

The Society is producing a 60-page booklet featuring reproductions of many of the portraits and local scenes, with the assistance of a grant from the Wayne County Antique Dealers Association. The vintage photographs provide a unique glimpse of the past and are sure to be of interest to photographers and history buffs.

For more information about the meeting, call 524.4024.

Wayne County Antique Dealers will be presenting their 33rd Annual Spring Antique Show on Sunday, April 14 at the Silver Hill Complex, Route 88, south of Newark.
