Marion Library News
By Pam Wolfanger

One of the solutions to winter doldrums is a visit to the new Library. We have new movies, new books, newspapers, magazines, travel books, many sources for a mini-vacation. It's always bright and cheery in our new facility.

Speaking of new facilities, I had the opportunity over the weekend to visit the Cameron County Public Library in Emporium, PA. It was at this library that I received my first library card at age 6. I still remember my grandmother and my aunts taking me to the library as a toddler and, later, as a wanna-be reader. I think getting my library card was one of the high spots of my young life. The old library was a 'quiet' place where I found sanctuary and adventure.

Living in a small community in the 1950's, I was permitted to go to the library by myself at a young age, and go I did. It was a real pleasure for me to visit the new facility, built this past year. It is a beautiful building with all the technology and amenities available in a 'New Century Library,' but there was a part of me that grieved for the good old days.

What a great success our Harry Potter party was! We had 35 children and many parents attend. Thanks to Heidi Jensen and Diana Smith for their help. We were also visited by a troll. The party-goers spent the time having their pictures taken, making an edible wand, etc. The plan is to have another party with the publishing of the next book.
