Missing Sodus

Signs of spring these past few days! (I cant wait for it to come and stay... I am hoping to be rid of the winter coats, nasty driving and cold temps.)

Happy Belated Birthday to Brian Hooper (Tuesday, March 26).

School News: I received an e-mail from Janey Hyland. It was nice to hear from her. She has worked with the School-To-Career Program for 5 years. Her office is in the H.S. Guidance Office. I had asked her about Katie Johnson - she has retired early and is now working part-time as a consultant.

flying flag Rob Wahl, who graduated from Sodus and is currently a Technology teacher in the high school, was just called to active duty in Operation Enduring Freedom. His address is robert.wahl@trab.aor.centaf.af.mil

His mom still teaches 1st grade in the Primary school. Robert is also an enlisted member of the New York Air National Guard, and wrote a letter to me last week from the other side of the world (the country of Oman) because, as of Feb. 28, 2002, Rob was called to Active duty for up to six months. He said he was writing the note because he misses all of the people and the community of Sodus and he wanted to let everyone back home know that he made it to his destination safely and he thinks of them often. Rob says, 'I will be home as soon as my job here is done.'

Thanks, Rob. We appreciate your being so far from home and for doing a great job.

News from Friends in Florida: Ralph and Betty Everdyke went to the annual (Wayne County) Reunion at Stacey's Buffet in Bradenton. There were 300-plus people in attendance. Betty & Ralph, Jennie & Harold Boerman, Pauline Zacharilla, Ron & Kay Van Camp and Dan & Mary Filbert from the complex in New Port Richey attended.

'It was a great day meeting many people we hadn't seen in a long time,' said Ralph. 'The weather was beautiful and the luncheon was very good. If the crowd gets much bigger, we will have to seek a larger place to hold the meeting.'

It will be held in the same location next year on Tuesday, March 11. Ralph told me the weather was 82 degrees (while we were in the 20s and getting snow on the first days of Spring.)

Betty and Ralph were busy last week - they also went to Winter Haven and visited Ronald and Micki Fagner. They went to lunch at the Diamond Head Golf Club which is a beautiful golf course. (Of course, the greens fees are only $75 unless you are a Florida resident and then they are $50.) Ralph said they didn't golf, but they had a great day visiting and having lunch together.

easter basket Al Dobbin will be leaving for Pennsylvania soon. Ed, Pat and Al will be flying out to Salt Lake City to see his grandson and his family. Al is excited about visiting and seeing his three great-grandchildren. (I'll let you know more about his trip when he lets me know. Al, have fun!)

News from a friend in Washington, DC: Carol Dwyer said the weather was 47 degrees outside. The buds on the cherry trees have their petals, and it won't be long until they bloom. Also, she tells me that the Pentagon renovation is ahead of schedule. They can see the scaffolding from the roadway and the lights around the Pentagon are on 24/7 filled with construction workers who work two shifts, 20 hours/day.

Kraft Shack Fun: Wednesday, April 3 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. spend a couple of hours in the Rubber Stamping Class learning some of the techniques. You will make several items to take home. $20 includes all. Please register in advance.

Don't forget that tonight is the last of the Lenten Fish Suppers at the Fairville Fire Hall. Be there at 4 p.m.

Then tomorrow morning (Sat., March 30), head to the Williamson Fire Hall from 8 to 11 for a Pancake Breakfast. There'll be an Easter Egg Hunt at ll - rain or shine.
