Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. (For some reason I always think it's later in the month. If it hadn't been for listening to a local disc jockey, my mom would have gotten her gift late.) And Dads: there is a Mother's Day Chicken BB-Q at the Fairville Fire Hall at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Also a Mother's Day Breakfast at the Lyons VFW from 8-11 a.m.

If you're not sure what to get Mom, DeFisher Greenhouses, Ridge Rd., Sodus, opens for the season tomorrow. They'll be sure to have something nice for Mom.

There's a Rummage Sale going on at the Sodus Third United Methodist Church. The sale today is from 9 to 6, and tomorrow is the $1 bag sale, 9 to noon.

Been driving for so long: Ralph and Betty Everdyke left last Friday morning about 7 a.m. and drove as far as Rocky Mount, NC - 684 miles. They arrived in Newark on Saturday at 5 p.m. 'The weather was with us and we had no rain or storms all the way. It rained while we were sleeping in Rocky Mount, but it had stopped by the time we started on Saturday.' The distance from Rocky Mount to Newark was 599 miles with a grand total of 1284 for the two days. Ralph and Betty, it's nice to have you back. I hope this weather isn't to chilly for you. Eileen Steffler ( Hooper) said Florida is getting quite hot.

News from the Chamber: Vendor space still available for the Olde Tyme Country Faire in Sodus, July 26, 27, 28. Call 315.483.4193. The Sodus Town Chamber of Commerce raised a total of $1400 at their annual Citizen of the Year Award Banquet held in April. All money raised at the event is earmarked for the scholarship fund and will be awarded in June to graduating Sodus Central School seniors. The Chamber sends thanks to the 56 businesses and private individuals that donated items, and to the public.

Mark your calendars: The Newark Firemen's Carnival is coming to Barker Parkway (off Stuart Ave.). The Carnival will be Wed., May l5 through Sat., May l8.

On Saturday, May l8, there's the Garden Faire and Tea Room at St. Mark's on South Main St., Newark from l0 to 3. (If you go let me know what it was like.)

Sunday, May l9, the Wallington Fire Department will have a Bog and Grog at noon.

What a busy weekend that will be.

Primary School News: The Sodus Primary School participated in Reading is Fun Week, and did you know that this week was Teacher Appreciation week, tool? On Thursday, Mrs. Southwick's Second Grade Class and Mrs. Witt's class went on a field trip to the l000 Acre Swamp Sanctuary. (I bet they had fun. My daughter had Mrs. Southwick and my son had Mrs. Witt - I don't think it's possible for those two teachers not to have fun!) On Friday, May l7 there will be no Pre-K classes due to Parent Meetings. On Saturday, May l8, from 9-l2 the Garden Club is having a Plant Sale.

Intermediate School News: Thursday, May l6 and Fri., May l7 is the Fifth Grade Field trip for Mr. Heagle, Miss Steffler and Mrs. Brennan's classes. Seems like yesterday my son was going on that field trip.

Kraft Shack News: Monday, May 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 come in and make an Angel Birdbath, This wooden angel decorated with grapevines and rusted tin hearts holds a tray in her hand so the birds can take a bath. $24 includes all. Pre-register. (If you'd like to have a project made for you because you can't make it yourself, the Kraft Shack can make it for you for an extra charge of $5.)

It's been another good week - nice to see the flowers and the leaves on the trees. If you'd like to have something added to the column, please send it along to me at
