Newark project will not change Memorial Day
Services will be held as usual, and also as usual, will be presided over by Lt. Col. Fred J Pirelli (USAR). The former mayor said yesterday that construction in the park would not change the traditional venue. As pictured, the park is undergoing several projects, including the construction of a new War Memorial. Participants at next Sunday's ceremony include Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2883 and American Legion Post #286. The National Anthems of the United States and Canada will be played by members of the Newark High School Band; David Schwind, Director. The Memorial Day speaker is S/Sgt. Nathan Graveman, US Army of Operation Desert Storm.
World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam War Memorials - wreath laying will be done by Gold Star Mother Dolores Wagemaker, Pat VanDemortel and Betty Palermo. Poppy Princesses Kaitlin VanDemortel and Alyssa Henkel will be honored. Receptions will follow the ceremony at the VFW and Legion Home.
